Samsung issues Galaxy S4 teaser, set for March 14 launch
In line with expectations, Samsung has issued an official teaser promoting its next-generation Galaxy S4 smartphone. Proclaiming "Be Ready 4 The Next Galaxy," the ad promotes Samsung Unpacked 2013 Episode 1, which is set to take place at Times Square, New York. The teaser also invites those unable to make to the launch event to watch a live stream on March 14, 7pm.
The Galaxy S4 is Samsung's hotly anticipated iPhone 5 challenger, which is set to reignite the the battle between two of techs biggest titans. The device will follow in the footsteps of Samsung's wildly popular Galaxy S III, which had sold in excess of 40 million units in its first 7-months on the market. However, sales estimates produced by Strategy Analytics suggests that Apple sold 27.4 million iPhone 5s in Q4, with Galaxy S III sales dipping markedly from the previous quarter to 15.4 million sold. Even Apple's older iPhone 4S outsold the Galaxy S III for the quarter, notching up 17.4 million sales, suggesting that the time is ripe for Samsung to initiate a counter move.
To help regain the number one smartphone crown from the iPhone 5, the Galaxy S4 is rumored to pack a 4.99-inch HD SoLux display, not an OLED display as had been expected. SoLux displays are said to produce a much more natural light and have longer life and greater efficiency than traditional LED-backlit displays. Rather than being powered by one of its own Exynos chips, it is now thought that it could be running a new Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, like the newly unveiled HTC One, but clocked at a higher 1.9GHz.
With the official unveiling set for slightly over a fortnight away, all will soon be revealed. [via Sammy Hub]
