YouTube co-founder names MixBit collaborative video site
YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley has revealed the name of his upcoming video collaboration site, while also poking fun at his previous endeavors. MixBit was officially named by Hurley on Twitter, after hinting in a SXSW talk last month that he was close to finally launching the service, and claims it is not a competitor to YouTube

The post, referring to a current YouTube April Fools Day joke, states "Since YouTube is ending, we're launching a new video site," before finishing "This time it's not a contest!" The MixBit site currently shows a landing page with a mailing list sign-up section, along with an image continuing the YouTube joke. The page reads "Instead of sitting around, we thought you'd want a new site to not only watch cat videos, but create them... together!" This follows on from the SXSW talk, where Hurley told of the project being "primarily video-based... and gives flexibility for people to work together and create content."
Though the landing page gives little in the way of clues as to how the site would allow collaborative video creation, The Verge reports of a Google cache showing a looping mp4 video embedded in a page, featuring Hurley and fellow YouTube co-founder Steve Chen.
MixBit is the latest project from the creators, who previously worked on personalized magazine creation site Zeen, as well as the highly popular video service YouTube, which they sold for $1.65 billion to Google in 2006.
