Rumor: Microsoft to provide next Xbox details on May 21st
Microsoft will reveal its follow-up to the Xbox 360 on May 21st, according to multiple reports. The console, codenamed <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/282806==http://www.electronista.com/articles/13/01/22/claimed.durango.system.architecture.makes.appearan ce/" rel='nofollow'>Durango</a>, is apparently scheduled to launch in "early November" and in theory has a high $500 price-point, though this could be lowered to $300 when combined with a subscription similar to that of the $99 <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/282807==http://www.electronista.com/articles/12/10/23/microsoft.offers.250gb.xbox.for.99.with.kinect.for .150.with.xbox.live.subscription/" rel='nofollow'>subsidized</a> Xbox 360 Kinect bundle. <br />
<br />
Details revealed <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/282808==http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01qrzaZg7_g#t=54m44" rel='nofollow' target="_self" title="">by</a> Paul Thurrot, backed up <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/282809==http://www.theverge.com/2013/4/8/4195954/microsoft-planning-xbox-event-for-may" rel='nofollow' target="_self" title="">by</a> <em>The Verge</em> and others, suggest that the always-on requirement of the next Microsoft console is true. Thurrot mentions that some notes he received, including leaked internal documentation, states "must be Internet-connected to use" at various points. An online gaffe on Twitter where Microsoft Studios creative director Adam Orth commented on the always-on rumors, using the "deal with it" meme, led to Microsoft <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/282810==http://majornelson.com/2013/04/05/official-statement-on-what-was-said-yesterday/" rel='nofollow'>apologizing</a> for the unscheduled announcement. <br />
<br />
The event itself will be held in a small venue, and will offer not only details about the console, but also Microsoft's plan for its gaming efforts for the rest of the year. It is unclear if it will be a bigger or smaller event than that used for the <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/282811==http://www.electronista.com/articles/13/02/20/console.based.on.x86.architecture/" rel='nofollow' target="_self" title="">PlayStation 4</a> launch in February. <br />
<br />
Thurrot also claims that there are two other Xbox devices in development. A $99 Xbox 360 codenamed Stingray is suggested by Thurrot to be a sign that the new console will not play Xbox 360 titles, while an entertainment apps-only device called Yumo has been canned.
