Verizon lengthens mobile upgrade timetable from 20 to 24 months
Verizon has issued a revision to its mobile device policy, restricting upgrades even further. With the new terms, customers on a two-year agreement will be eligible for an upgrade only at the very end of their contract, rather than the current "early upgrade" eligibility at 20 months. Verizon claims that the change "aligns the upgrade date with the contract end date and is consistent with how the majority of customers purchase new phones today."
A news posting by Verizon states that the first customers impacted by the change will be those whose contracts expire in January of 2014. The company also reminds customers that they may purchase a new phone at the full retail price at any time in a contract.
Verizon also noted that the two-years expired credits for the "New Every Two" program will not be available to customers after April 15. Additionally, the option to transfer upgrades from a phone to a tablet or vice versa will no longer be possible.
