LG: 'something different and unique' Optimus G sequel due Q3
LG is planning to create an updated version of the Optimus G smartphone, something that could launch by the third quarter of this year. The device will apparently have a screen that is closer to five inches in size, smaller than the 5.5-inches used by the Optimus G Pro, and is set to be a globally-released handset.
LG head of marketing Won Kim told Engadget the new device will be "something different and something unique," suggesting it will be more than just a specification increase and refinement in design and features. Further details about the possible device were not revealed by Kim, but it is likely that more information will be provided in the coming months.
The Optimus G Pro, seen at Mobile World Congress in February and expected to be released in the US in May, offered a 1080p Full HD IPS display, a 1.7GHz Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 13-megapixel camera. Adding something different or unique to the design could possibly give LG the edge it needs to take on the Samsung Galaxy S4 or similar flagship releases.
