Panasonic upgrades Toughbook H2 to Intel i5, provides more storage
Rugged computer manufacturer <a href="http://www.panasonic.com/business/toughbook/ultra-mobile-rugged-mca-toughbook-h2.asp#">Panasonic</a> has announced upgrades to the Toughbook H2 handheld tablet PC. The ruggedized device improvements include a faster processor, expanded storage while maintaining the same durability, including the ability to survive a six-foot drop with no damage. <br /><br />The upgrades to the new H2 include an upgrade to the Intel Core i5-3427U running at speeds up to 2.8GHz, a larger hard drive with platter offerings up to 500GB, with an optional 128GB SSD available, improved battery life with the twin swappable batteries delivering seven hours of operation. Also, the Wi-Fi has been upgraded to 802.11n specifications, and Bluetooth 4.0 replaces the previous 3.0 version. Wireless broadband options include 4G LTE or 3G, both with dedicated GPS.<br />

The 3.5-pound Toughbook H2 handheld tablet PC runs Microsoft Windows 7 Professional and includes optional integrated technology such as barcode, fingerprint, insertable or contactless SmartCard/RFID readers. Ports installed include USB 3.0, serial, and Ethernet. Its 10.1-inch XGA LED transflective touchscreen with Panasonic CircuLumin technology allows for screen brightness adjustment from 6,000 nits to as low as 1 nit for concealed nighttime use.<br />

The upgraded Toughbook H2 is available now for $3,349 and up, depending on configuration.
