1.5-inch OLED screens being tested for Apple smartwatch, rumor says
Apple is testing 1.5-inch OLED touchscreens for use in its upcoming smartwatch, claims Taiwanese publication the Economic Daily News. Apple is in fact said to have tried 1.8-inch screens, but judged that they were too big. The 1.5-inch panels are reportedly being manufactured by Taiwan's RiTdisplay, and use one-glass-solution touch sensors, which should allow Apple to keep the watch thin.

The Daily News adds that Foxconn has already received orders to manufacture an Apple watch, but only for a "small-scale trial production." That initial effort is expected to cap out at 1,000 units. If there are no problems however, it could theoretically be followed by full-scale production, particularly if Apple is aiming to release the watch around September as some rumors have suggested.
Several major technology companies are delving into wearable computing. While Apple, Microsoft, and Samsung are believed to be going the watch route, Google is pursuing heads-up displays through its Glass project. If Apple ships a watch in September, it will still beat Google to market in terms of non-testbed hardware.

But Samsung's watches will be using 3" displays because Droid-heads always need bigger displays to see twice as much information as the next guy.
