HTC struggles continue as it bleeds executives
HTC's woes seem to have cut into its staff morale with a several senior executives said to be leaving the company, reports The Verge. HTC's Chief Product Officer Kouji Kodera left the Taiwanese smartphone maker last week, joining an exodus that has taken place over the past three months. Other senior execs to leave the embattled company include Jason Gordon (VP Global Communications), Rebecca Rowland (Global Retail Marketing Manager), John Starkweather (Director of Digital Marketing) and Eric Lin (Product Strategy Manager).
A number of those who have left the company were based at its US operations, which is having its planning and strategy teams relocated to Taiwan by Chief Marketing Officer Ben Ho. It could well be that, although the company is struggling, some of the execs who have left might have preferred to remain based in the US. Indeed, John Starweather has taken up a post with AT&T, while Eric Lin and Rebecca Rowland have landed at Microsoft. Lin, however, has taken things one step further urging friends to leave HTC as the will be "much happier."
HTC financial results have been tanking over the past two years, with profit plunging 98 percent from the same time last year to just $2.8 million. Its rapid decline as the leading Android handset maker has been set against the rapid rise of Samsung over the past three years. While Samsung now owns over 40 percent of the Android market, HTC's total global market share sits at just 3.1 percent.
At present, the company's hopes rest on the success or failure of the HTC One. The device has received glowing reviews, with many pundits believing that it holds an edge over the Samsung Galaxy S4, with many commending the device for its software features and stunning aluminum design. The company recently announced that it has doubled production of the One due to high demand, in what is one of the few positives for the company in recent times.
