Rumor claims HTC One with stock Android on way despite HTC denial
HTC is still planning to release a version of the <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/286290==http://www.electronista.com/articles/13/05/23/htc.one.fairing.well.but.samsung.maintains.strong. lead/" rel='nofollow'>HTC One</a> with a stock installation of Android, according to a rumor, despite an <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/286291==http://www.electronista.com/articles/13/05/16/htc.not.planning.stock.android.version.of.htc.one/" rel='nofollow'>official denial</a> from the company. Sources of the rumor place an announcement of a vanilla HTC One within the next two weeks and a release sometime in the summer, with internal teams apparently already working on making it possible. <br />
<br />
The report from Russell Holly of <em>Geek.com</em> <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/286292==http://www.geek.com/android/htc-considering-a-stock-android-htc-one-senseless-edition-1556220/" rel='nofollow'>could</a> possibly be true, as it comes after he wrote about <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/286293==http://www.electronista.com/articles/13/05/15/samsung.said.prepping.stock.android.version.of.gal axy.s4/" rel='nofollow'>another rumor</a> for the stock Android version of the <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/286294==http://www.electronista.com/articles/13/05/15/device.will.be.unlocked.use.unlocked.bootloader.re ceive.timely.updates/" rel='nofollow'>Samsung Galaxy S4</a> which later turned out to be factual. That device is being sold directly from Google for $649 unlocked from June 26th. Shortly after the announcement at Google I/O, HTC issued a statement stating it was "not currently planning a 'Nexus Edition' of the HTC One." <br />
<br />
Currently, HTC provides a <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/286295==http://www.electronista.com/articles/13/03/13/htc.one.facing.two.week.delay.one.developer.editio n.announced/" rel='nofollow'>Developer Edition</a> of the HTC One, at an equal $649 cost. While it does provide a version of Android with HTC Sense installed instead of a stock version of Android, it does offer an unlocked bootloader, therefore allowing for a vanilla Android installation. Since it does provide a device capable of running stock Android, albeit with some effort on the part of the user, it isn't much of a jump for HTC to start offering such a device, though the company's protectiveness of HTC Sense may be a hurdle for its release.
