Leaked screenshots show update coming for web Gmail
Shortly after hints of an Android app redesign hit the Internet, new screenshots appear to show that a similar redesign is in the works for Gmail's web version. The redesign, discovered by The Next Web, show a significantly redesigned interface, one that is tailored to help users better organize their emails. The major feature in the redesign appears to be the addition of a tabbed interface that categorizes emails.

The default tabs in the redesign will include Main, Social, Offers, Notifications, and Forums. Main will handle emails from friends, family members, and other non-sortable communications, while Social will handle messages from social media services. Offers will be the repository for emails from retailers, deal sites, and merchants, and emails about bills, reservations, and other alerts will go under Notifications. Emails from mailing lists and forums will go under Forums.

The web redesign comes as Google is preparing roll out an update to its Android client. That update will add a new navigation drawer anchored to the left side.

There has been no indication of when exactly Gmail users might expect to see these updates roll out. Observers expect that it might debut at some point in the next few weeks, with Google giving users the ability to switch back to the old interface for a time.
