Google moving Buzz data to Google Drive accounts July 17th
Google is now taking the "last step" in the permanent closure of Google Buzz. E-mails sent to Buzz users state that the search company will be finishing off the service completely on July 17th, with data created during the service's lifetime being stored on the user's Google Drive account instead of being deleted outright.

Two sets of file types will be stored on the Google Drive, which will apparently not count towards any storage limits, according to an e-mail received by Engadget. One type will be private, showing public and private posts created by the user, while the second will contain a copy of the user's public posts. This second type will be publicly viewable by anyone with a link, with any existing links to Buzz content being funneled to the corresponding file on Google Drive instead.

While the e-mail does explain why comments are stored on other users' files and advises that the contents of said comments could be made public by other users, it also states that users can delete the Buzz posts and comments before the date, and so avoiding saving on other's accounts.

The social sharing service first received its shut-down orders in October 2011, at the same time as a number of other social elements controlled by Google, with users being pointed towards Google+ as a replacement. During its time, Buzz caused Google to pay a $8.5 million settlement in a class-action suit, due to alleged violations of privacy.
