Analysts downgrade Apple to sixth in China sales, Samsung still leads
Samsung has sold more than 10 million smartphones in China within a single quarter for the first time, according to a research firm. The same report based on data from US research firm Strategy Analytics also claims that Apple resides in sixth place in the country's smartphone marketplace, one place below a similar report earlier this month that placed the iPhone in fifth place.
The figures from the Korea Herald claim that Samsung managed to sell 12.5 million smartphones between January and March, which represents an 18.5-percent market share and a 2.2-percent increase from the last quarter of 2012. Apple managed to sell 6.1 million units, putting it behind Huawei (8.1 million), Lenovo (7.9 million), Coolpad from YuLong and China Unicom (7 million), and ZTE (6.4 million) as well as Samsung. LG, said to be the third largest smartphone manufacturer, sold just 100,000 smartphones in China, giving it a 0.1-percent market share.
The earlier report using data from Canalys saw Apple and Samsung have far higher market shares compared to the the Strategy Analytics figures, putting the two companies at 8 percent and 20 percent respectively. The disparity between the two reports could be put down to the way that each analyst sources their data, along with how each interprets the results.

It's OK that Apple is losing market share because they're not trying to gain market share. It's the only company who's not trying to gain or hold market share. Apple has more noble goals in mind. Sell iPhones only to consumers who actually appreciate them. Don't force consumers to buy iPhones. Don't try to hard-sell iPhones. Let consumers freely come to Apple and beg for iPhones. Apple is confident that consumers will choose iPhones simply because there is an Apple logo on them. Apple is happy to give up smartphone market share to rivals because market share no longer concerns Apple. Apple is above that sort of desperate sales model. Apple's new iPhone sales motto for consumers is, "If you don't buy an iPhone it's your loss, not ours."
