Microsoft Surface Pro heads to Japan, reveals larger 256GB model
Microsoft has rolled out its Surface Pro to <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/286555==http://www.microsoft.com/surface/ja-jp/surface-with-windows-8-pro/home" rel='nofollow'>Japan</a>, as part of its plans to offer the slate computer in <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/286556==http://www.electronista.com/articles/13/05/16/australia.new.zealand.hong.kong.set.for.may.surfac e.pro.launch/" rel='nofollow'>more countries</a>, and has included an option for larger storage. A 256GB model will go on sale in the country on June 7th, and marks the first time Microsoft has increased the capacity for the Pro version of its tablets from the original 64GB and 128GB variants. <br />
<br />
While it is offering the new, larger capacity Surface Pro, <em>Liveside</em> <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/286557==http://www.liveside.net/2013/05/29/surface-pro-coming-to-japan-with-256gb-version/" rel='nofollow'>notes</a> the lack of the 64GB version. While it is possible that this is a Japan-exclusive version, it could be a sign that Microsoft has learned from <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/286558==http://www.electronista.com/articles/13/01/29/windows.8.and.pre.installed.software.consume.41gb/" rel='nofollow'>earlier complaints</a> by customers about having just 23GB of storage free on the 64GB model. It may be the case that Microsoft is thinking about phasing out the 64GB model completely, and in turn bring the 256GB edition to other markets. <br />
<br />
The Japanese edition of the Surface Pro ships with Office 2013 pre-installed, and will feature a contest at launch to win one of 100 limited edition Touch Covers from local brands including Beams, Moussy, RodeoCrowns, and Rienda. The 128GB model costs 99,800 yen ($975) and the 256GB will sell for 119,800 yen ($1,170).
