Amazon revives 9.7-inch Kindle DX e-reader after eight-month hiatus
Amazon has brought its large-scale e-reader back on sale, after an eight-month absence. The K<a href="http://macnn.com/rd/287067==http://www.electronista.com/reviews/kindle-dx.html" rel='nofollow'>indle DX</a>, quietly discontinued by the retailer <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/287068==http://www.electronista.com/articles/12/10/15/aging.kindle.dx.no.longer.offered.for.sale.as.a.ne w.item.from.amazon/" rel='nofollow'>last October</a>, has appeared back on the company's ebook-device <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/287069==http://www.amazon.com/Kindle-DX-Wireless-Reader-3G-Global/dp/B002GYWHSQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370454498&sr=8-1&keywords=kindle+dx" rel='nofollow'>roster</a>, with the e-ink slate seemingly retaining all of the specifications and features that it had before its removal. <br />
<br />
The Kindle DX uses a 9.7-inch, 1200x824-pixel, 16-gray level <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/287070==http://www.electronista.com/articles/10/07/01/e.ink.details.pearl.display.tech.in.new.kindle.dx/" rel='nofollow'>E Ink Pearl</a> display, and offers 3.3GB of free storage on its 4GB drive. Its battery is capable of lasting for up to one week with the wireless on from a 4.5-hour charge, and is able to connect over Wi-Fi, USB 2.0, and its free lifetime 3G connection. While it makes a return to the store in its original form, there is not an option to have the Kindle DX with the backlit <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/287071==http://www.electronista.com/articles/12/09/06/new.e.reader.sports.high.resolution.screen/" rel='nofollow'>Paperwhite</a> screen. <br />
<br />
At the time of its discontinuation, Amazon removed the Kindle DX after a period where it did not advertise nor update the e-reader for some time. The switchover from e-readers to <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/287073==http://www.electronista.com/reviews/amazon-kindle-fire.html" rel='nofollow'>tablets</a> seemed to affect the Kindle DX's popularity, and was dumped from the store without fanfare. <em>The Verge</em> <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/287072==http://www.theverge.com/2013/6/5/4399144/amazon-brings-back-long-dormant-kindle-dx" rel='nofollow'>reports</a> that Amazon vice president Jay Marine claimed the company would not abandon the Kindle DX, but it was "pretty much done with it."<br />
<br />
Amazon has listed the Kindle DX at $299, the same price it had when it was removed from sale.
