Mad Catz takes on OUYA with Project M.O.J.O Android console
Gaming company Mad Catz has announced that it is developing an Android-based "micro console" that will build on its Android-ready gaming GameSmart peripherals. The company has revealed that its GameSmart accessories will be compatible with Nvidia Tegra-powered devices in a hook-up with the graphics and mobile chip-maker. Although Mad Catz has not publicly announced any specifications for the Project M.O.J.O, the just-announced partnership with Nvidia has led to speculation that the new console will be powered by an Nividia Tegra 4 system-on-a-chip.

"At next week's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles we will unveil the keystone product in our GameSmart initiative, Project M.O.J.O., an Android micro console configured to harness the maximum gaming horsepower from an android device," said Mad Catz CEO Darren Richardson. "The Project M.O.J.O. Android micro console is being designed to interact seamlessly with our GameSmart controllers, mice, keyboards and headsets," he added.
The new Project M.O.J.O Android gaming console will follow in the footsteps of the Kickstarter-backed OUYA Android Tegra 3-based gaming console that has recently been shipping to backers. OUYA, which also partnered with Nvidia on the development of its console, has already indicated that it plans to upgrade the hardware of the console on an annual basis and will move to a Tegra 4-based in due course. The new breed of Android gaming consoles is banking on a cheap entry price in order to get a foothold in the hotly contested gaming space.
