LG adds GameNow streaming gaming service to new smart TV range in US
LG is adding cloud gaming to its latest smart televisions in the United States, thanks to an agreement with Ubitus. In a similar manner to how OnLive and Gaikai operate, GameNow allows various games to be rendered on company servers and streamed to the TV over the Internet, rather than being downloaded and installed onto local storage.

While it eliminates the need to buy a separate game console or set-top box, GameNow will still require extra hardware in order to actually play games. The LA7900, LA8600, and LA9600 smart TVs will need the F310, F510, F710, or Rumble-Pad2 game controllers from Logitech, or the Joytron Rumble Power or the Joytron Rumble Power 2.

The games being offered through the service are said to be "triple-A" quality, with Street Fighter X Tekken and Batman: Arkham City being given as examples, and users will have a 30-minute free trial of each title before making any purchases.

The GameNow service itself is free at present, but it is expected to change over to a subscription or "game pack" model in the near future, with pricing yet to be determined.
