Casio Commando 4G LTE claimed destined for Verizon launch this year
A new smartphone from Casio will be making its way to Verizon, according to a leaked image. The Casio Commando 4G LTE, the follow-up to the Casio G'zOne Commando released in 2011, appears to retain most of the angular and ruggedized appearance of its predecessor, but adds in LTE connectivity and is likely to have other improved internals.
According to the evleaks Twitter account, the Casio Commando 4G LTE will be out later this year, though this is yet to be confirmed. An earlier FCC filing for the C811, a possible match for the Commando that has the same pointed base edge, reveals it will have NFC, Wi-Fi, and GSM connection options, on top of LTE.
The original G'zOne Commando was a device that met the US military's 810G specification for immersion in water, resistance to dust, vibration, impacts, and temperature. Marketed to hikers, it had a 800mHz processor with 512mb of RAM, a 3.6-inch 480x800 display, and a five-megapixel camera. While it was initially supplied with Android 2.2 that later got updated to Android 2.3, it shipped with a Casio-tuned interface providing various useful apps and widgets, something that seems to continue on this new device.
