Apple working with Logitech, MOGA on MFi-certified game controllers
Apple is working with companies like Logitech and MOGA on iOS 7-compatible game controllers, reports say. The iOS 7 SDK includes <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/287699==http://www.macnn.com/articles/13/06/12/audio.tech.could.kill.third.party.audiobus.app/" rel='nofollow'>support for Made for iPhone/iPod/iPad game controllers</a>, but no specific pieces of hardware or their makers have been formally announced. Apple is reportedly demonstrating prototype controllers at WWDC, and <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/287700==http://www.macrumors.com/2013/06/13/apple-working-with-logitech-and-moga-on-upcoming-mfi-game-controllers/" rel='nofollow'>expecting</a> actual third-party controllers to ship in the fall.<br />

Games are one of the most popular app categories for iOS devices, but touch interfaces have so far limited the kinds of games that work well on the platform. Some peripheral makers have tried their hands at custom iOS controllers, but these have either failed to catch on or will work only with specific apps. MFi-certified gear could help spur more creative game development, and possibly help Apple compete against some of the dedicated game consoles on the market.
