Facebook sends printed invitations to June 20 product launch
Social networking giant <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/287783==http://www.electronista.com/articles/13/05/01/second.profitable.quarter.shows.increase.in.mobile .ad.impressions/" rel='nofollow'>Facebook</a> is holding a media event to announce a mysterious new product next week. The invitation, sent in a white envelope to reporters rather than through an e-mail, provides close to zero clues as to what will be revealed on Thursday, June 20 at the Menlo Park headquarters, except that it will be something fairly substantial.<br />
<br />
The invitation received <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/287784==http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/technology/2013/06/facebook-to-hold-mysterious-product-launch-event-on-june-20/" rel='nofollow'>by</a> <em>ABC News</em> reads "a small team has been working on a big idea. Join us for coffee and learn about a new product," and is printed to look like a napkin with a coffee mug stain. <br />
<br />
It is difficult to work out exactly what Facebook could be revealing at the event. Its last major event was for the <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/287785==http://www.electronista.com/articles/13/04/04/android.launcher.brings.messages.from.contacts.in. front.of.apps/" rel='nofollow'>Facebook Home</a> interface and <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/287786==http://www.electronista.com/articles/13/04/04/handset.carries.entry.level.price/" rel='nofollow'>HTC First</a>, and while software-only updates have had occasional media attendance requests in the past, it was only for the more-important changes to the service, and not for more-minor items. One possible product could be an RSS reader hosting service to replace the <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/287787==http://www.electronista.com/articles/13/06/14/possible.rss.reader.code.found.within.facebook.gra ph.api/" rel='nofollow'>closing Google Reader</a>, as code relating to such a service has recently been found within an API, though this may not be major enough to warrant printed invitations.
