Sony teases possible SmartWatch update at Mobile Asia Expo next week
Sony may be making an upgrade to its <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/288215==http://www.electronista.com/articles/12/04/12/smartwatch.allows.remote.android.phone.control/" rel='nofollow'>SmartWatch</a> in the future, after the company made a number of hints on its <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/288219==https://twitter.com/sonyxperia/status/347760836225421312" rel='nofollow'>Twitter</a> account. Posts also mention the Mobile Asia Expo in Shanghai, which starts on Wednesday next week, which suggests it will be the venue of some sort of reveal, though it is not clear if it will be a brand new product or an update. <br />
<br />
In the last few days, the Sony Xperia Twitter feed states that the company launched the world's first 'smart' watch in 2007, that its SmartWatch is the "only wearable device with 200 #firstgen apps on Google Play," and posted an infographic stating that one in three smartphone users "want smart wrist wear."<br />
<br />
While Sony is one of the first to provide a smart wristwatch, it isn't going to be alone for much longer. The <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/288216==http://www.macnn.com/articles/13/01/09/smart.watch.shown.at.ces/" rel='nofollow'>Pebble</a> smartwatch started shipping to backers earlier this year, while both <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/288217==http://www.electronista.com/articles/13/03/19/samsung.exec.admits.smartwatch.deep.in.development/" rel='nofollow'>Samsung</a> and <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/288218==http://www.electronista.com/articles/13/05/20/early.trial.production.of.device.expected.to.start .soon/" rel='nofollow'>Apple</a> are rumored to be working on their own smart timepieces. <br />
<br />
The current Sony MW2 SmartWatch has a 1.3-inch OLED touchscreen display with a resolution of 128x128. It is able to control an Android 2.1 or higher smartphone, is able to display updates from social networks and apps, show incoming phone calls, and control music, and has a battery life of around 4 days under normal use. Sony currently sells the device for $100.
