WSJ report claims Facebook making Flipboard-style reading app
Facebook is working on its own mobile reading app, according to a new report. The potential app from the social network will apparently offer curated content from Facebook users and publishers tailored for mobile consumption, with the latest version said to be similar to magazine-style feed-reading app <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/288303==http://www.electronista.com/articles/12/06/22/flipboard.out.now.on.android.new.features.for.ios. too/" rel='nofollow'>Flipboard</a>. <br />
<br />
The report from <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/288304==http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887323998604578563853135203858.html?m od=e2tw" rel='nofollow'>the</a> <em>Wall Street Journal</em> cites "people with knowledge of the project" as calling the internal project Reader, though this is likely to change before its future release. It also ties into earlier reported sightings of <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/288305==http://www.electronista.com/articles/13/06/14/possible.rss.reader.code.found.within.facebook.gra ph.api/" rel='nofollow'>RSS code</a> buried within Facebook's API, which appears to tie RSS feeds to specific accounts and has all of the important components of a general RSS reader, though not currently usable on the service. <br />
<br />
Facebook's possible app is the latest in a line of potential replacements for Google Reader, which is set to shut down at the end of this month. <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/288306==http://www.electronista.com/articles/13/05/24/rss.reader.said.to.be.very.clean.very.simple.and.v ery.fast/" rel='nofollow'>Digg</a>, <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/288307==http://www.electronista.com/articles/13/03/16/google.reader.exodus.causes.service.to.use.10.time s.the.bandwidth/" rel='nofollow'>Feedly</a>, <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/288308==http://www.macnn.com/articles/13/03/15/developers.left.scrambling.as.service.disappears/" rel='nofollow'>Zite</a> and others are either working on or have released their own versions of the much-loved service, along with recent murmurings that AOL will be stepping into the fray in the future as well.
