Sharp shipping THX-certified 70-inch Aquos UHD TV to US in August
Sharp will launch its first THX-certified 4K-resolution television in the United States in August. The 70-inch Aquos Ultra HD LED TV, the larger of two models announced for sale in Japan last month, will also be the first television of its type to have the visual certification, thanks to it passing through four hundred performance tests.
As well as checking the ability to display a 3840x2160-resolution image, the THX 4K certification also covers its ability to upscale HD video to 4K effectively. Content can be sourced from its built-in SD card reader, two USB ports, and its Smart TV functions connecting over Wi-Fi, as well as its four HDMI inputs.

Aside from the normal remote control usually provided, the UHDTV is capable of receiving commands from smartphones and tablets, and can receive images and videos from the devices for display on the larger screen. A six-speaker sound system with a DuoBass dual subwoofer that can supply 35-watt sound is also included, alongside two active shutter 3D glasses that connect over Bluetooth.

Sharp will be putting the Aquos Ultra HD LED TV on sale in mid-August for $8,000. It is not clear if the 60-inch model seen in Japan will also make an appearance in the US.
