Remote for Roku Streaming Stick spotted at FCC with audio output
<a href="http://macnn.com/rd/288623==http://www.electronista.com/articles/13/05/31/working.with.device.oems.to.make.roku.software.for .tvs/" rel='nofollow'>Roku</a> will be adding an audio output to the remote control for its <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/288624==http://www.electronista.com/articles/12/01/04/roku.streaming.stick.offers.alternate.to.full.hubs/" rel='nofollow'>Streaming Stick</a>, according to filings with the Federal Communications Commission. The <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/288625==https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/reports/ViewExhibitReport.cfm?mode=Exhibits&RequestTimeout =500&calledFromFrame=N&application_id=322120&fcc_i d=TC2-RCB3" rel='nofollow'>filing</a> reveals two version of the remote control, showing a version with the headphone socket built into the side of the device, as well as a more conventional model with the new addition removed from view. <br />
<br />
There does not appear to be any other changes to the remote, according <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/288626==http://www.zatznotfunny.com/2013-06/roku-streaming-stick-remote-updated-for-audio-output/" rel='nofollow'>to</a> <em>Zats Not Funny</em>. It does offer the same sort of functionality as the remote supplied with the <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/288627==http://www.electronista.com/articles/13/03/05/new.device.has.motion.sensitive.remote.with.headph ones/" rel='nofollow'>Roku 3</a>, in that it will allow users to listen to media playing on the device privately instead of using the television's audio, with controls and audio streaming provided by a Wi-Fi Direct connection. <br />
<br />
The Roku Streaming Stick plugs into an MHL port on a HDTV, and provides a similar experience to the normal Roku devices, except that it is hidden behind the television itself. Connecting over Wi-Fi, it can display 1080p HD video and is being pitched as a low-cost and simple way of providing smart TV capabilities to a TV with no Internet-connected features. <br />
<br />
Currently, the Roku Streaming Stick is being <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/288628==http://www.roku.com/streamingstick" rel='nofollow'>sold</a> for $99. It is not clear if or when the company will replace existing remote controls with the new version, or if it will sell the updated-audio version separately in the future.
