Skype reaches 100M Android client installs, updates app with redesign
Skype has released an update for its Android client today, at the same time as revealing the app has broken the 100 million installations barrier. Version 4.0 of the messaging app introduces a few design aspects and the general theme of the Skype client used in Windows 8, as well as a number of performance improvements.

Said to be "completely redesigned" in order to be "faster and easier," the new app launches a lot quicker than the previous version. The app benefits from the light white and blue color scheme and Metro styling with a flattened UI and new layout. Starting new chats and making calls have been spread out to the corners, while the main interface has been divided into three sections: recent actions, a favorites section, and a general Skype contact list called "People." Messaging, main call functions and video calling remain relatively the same as before, though with a slightly refreshed scheme.
The company blog mentions that there will be more updates in the coming months that will make Skype on Android "more reliable, reachable, and mobile-friendly," but did not state if the changes will transfer over to the iOS version of the app in the future.
