Firefox OS smartphones go on sale, Firefox Marketplace activated
Firefox OS smartphones have gone on sale to the general public, with the first batch of devices being sold through Telefonica. The launch in Spain of the ZTE Open, delayed until today following last week's announcement, is accompanied by news that Mozilla has turned on the Firefox OS payment systems, allowing developers to earn through app sales and in-app purchases.

The ZTE Open is available initially Spain for 69 euros ($89), with the device launching soon in Poland, Columbia, and Venezuela, according to the Mozilla blog, with other regions expected in the future. The Alcatel One Touch Fire, another launch Firefox OS device, will also go on sale soon, with some of the 20 hardware manufacturers and carriers likely to reveal their own devices in the coming months.

The Firefox Marketplace is opened up as part of the launch. Acting as the app store and payments system for Firefox OS, developers can have their HTML5-based apps listed for sale and download.
Mozilla has also announced that it will be releasing a new version of its Firefox OS Simulator. Version 4, available to download on July 11th, will add a new "Connect Button" for connecting a developer toolbox to an app, a remote style editor, a hidden option to clear persistent data, touch event simulation, and an updated dashboard design.
