LG realigns smartphone branding, drops 'Optimus' name from flagships
LG has realigned its branding ahead of the launch of its Optimus G successor in August. The new flagship handset will simply be called the LG 'G2, ' in a move that may upset Samsung, which uses the 'Galaxy' branding for its devices. Its 4:3 ratio phablet devices will also drop the 'Optimus' branding and will be known as the 'Vu' series moving forward. However LG has said that it will retain the Optimus branding for certain devices, including its popular low-end smartphones, the F- and L-series handsets.
LG has already indicated that the forthcoming LG G2 will pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core CPU clocked at 2.3GHz that will deliver up to 75 percent better performance than the 2012 Snapdragon S4 Pro. Its integrated Adreno 330 GPU will deliver 200 percent better performance than the older Adreno 320. It is expected to be matched with up to 3GB of system RAM.

Other key specs suggest that LG will continue the trend towards ever increasing smartphone displays by shipping the device with a 5.2-inch display. Its predecessor shipped with a 4.7-inch display in the US and most international markets, although the Japanese-only version shipped with a 5-inch display. The new display is also said to be state-of-the-art and with the whole display component just 2.2mm thin, while its bezel is also as narrow as 2.3mm.
