Verizon HTC One to run Android 4.2.2 out of the box
Verizon customers buying the HTC One in the late summer will be pleased to find that their devices will what is currently the latest version of Android right out of the box. A prominent HTC leaker tweeted on Friday that HTC's flagship handset would indeed run Android 4.2.2 when it launches on Verizon later this year. The device is set to hit Verizon's network either in August or September.
Verizon has scheduled a press event for July 23, and it is presumed that that event will shed more light on when customers can expect HTC's phone to become available.
The upgrade to Android 4.2.2 hasn't brought much in the way of major functionality, but its default status on the Verizon HTC One is a solid indication that the carrier is at least somewhat committed to making sure customers get the latest builds of Google's operating system. Android 4.2.2 has a number of interface tweaks and improvements to the camera functionality, as well as security enhancements and optimizations.
Google will likely announce Android 4.3 on July 24 at a media event with Android head Sundar Pichai. The next build of Android, which was leaked late last week, isn't expected to have much in the way of major additions over its predecessors.
