HTC shuffles US operations, creates 'Emerging Devices' section
HTC is creating a new unit dedicated to "Emerging Devices" and undeveloped markets, as part of a shake up of its United States operations. Changes to the executive roster in the US arm have also taken place, as the company attempts to rectify its uncomfortable financial situation in the face of repeatedly poor quarterly results.
President of Global Sales Jason McKenzie will be in charge of HTC America, according to a leaked internal e-mail received by the Wall Street Journal. Mike Woodward, president of North America for the company, will be heading up the Emerging Devices unit, which will "focus on innovative new HTC products and global distribution strategies." Though it is said that the e-mail from HTC CEO Peter Chou doesn't go into detail as to what the new unit will actually work on, it is likely that it will work on cheaper devices destined for emerging markets, something which other companies are already working towards.
The change in leadership for the US arm of the company comes after a number of executives have exited, including the CEO of HTC Asia Lennard Hoornik, chief product officer Kouji Kodera, and vice president of global communications Jason Gordan. Last month, the company revealed it had dropped the pay of executives at the company in half during the year 2012 to $22 million because of the results, down from the $45 million paid out in 2011.
