Canon Vixia mini brings 'selfies' to video
Spotting a new niche in the video camcorder segment, Canon has brought the art of 'selfies' to video. The new Canon Vixia mini has been designed with an emphasis on users taking self-portraits by hand, while it also has a built-in stand allowing users to place it on the ground at different angles to take action footage as well. The device is also relatively compact, allowing users to carry it in a pocket, while still packing a number of Canon's imaging technologies.

The Canon Vixia mini is equipped with a f/2.8 fisheye lens offering users wide-angle footage out of the box, shooting video on 16.8mm with a 160-degree field of view. It also shoots still images in 15.4mm with a 170-degree angle, which is the equivalent to the 35mm format. The Vixia mini also incorporates Canon's DIGIC DV 4 image processor and a high-sensitivity 12.8-megapixel CMOS sensor for capturing quality footage in a range of lighting conditions, but with an emphasis on low-light image quality. It is capable of shooting video in 1080p at 30fps, while it also incorporates dual-mics for capturing audio in stereo.

The Vixia mini also comes standard with Wi-Fi for instantly sharing footage over a Wi-Fi connection to other devices, including smartphones, or directly to social blogs. The device is able to live stream from a remote location to an iOS or Android device using Canon's free CameraAccess2 mobile app. This allows the device to also be used to remotely monitor babies, pets or capture wildlife videos remotely without potentially disturbing the surrounds. Or, users an simply view videos back on its built-in 2.7-inch capacitive touchscreen display.
The Canon Vixia is available now in either white or black for $300.
Perhaps Anthony Weiner or Brett Favre can be recruited to promote this innovative offering.
