Apple confirms buyout of Passif Semiconductor
Apple has confirmed a buyout of Silicon Valley firm Passif Semiconductor, according to AllThingsD. News of the deal first emerged from former Wall Street Journal reporter Jessica Lessin. Apple spokeswoman Amy Bessette has refused to offer any more details on the acquisition, such as cost or the intent behind it.

Passif is however a specialist in low-power technology, including chips that support Bluetooth. The takeover could be related to the iWatch, which will need maximum power efficiency to be practical as an everyday device. It will likely sync with iOS devices via Bluetooth, and may be able to simultaneously monitor health and fitness data.
Apple has bought a trio of companies in recent weeks. The other two, Locationary and HopStop, appear to have been bought explicitly to improve Maps for iOS and OS X.
