Microsoft tightens collaboration between PC, phone and Xbox units
Microsoft is reportedly moving quickly to enact its latest restructuring effort, following CEO Steve Ballmer's announcement of eventual retirement. A All Things D report suggests the company is planning to bring its PC, phone and Xbox divisions closer together within the Windows unit, which will be led by Terry Myerson.

Windows Phone veteran Henry Sanders is said to be tasked with leading development efforts for the entire Windows group, while Joe Belfiore is expected to head a team that will be focused on PCs, phones and tablets. The Xbox team is said to be led by Marc Whitten, with the services division continuing under Chris Jones' leadership.

The report points out several notable exclusions from the leadership ranks, including Grant George of the Windows testing team, Antoine Leblond from Windows services, and Windows development VP Jon DeVaan.

The restructuring appears to place all of the software development efforts under one chain of command, however the hardware will still be overseen separately by Julie Larson-Green. The pending Nokia buyout is also expected to have an impact on the hardware division leadership.
Additional details surrounding the shuffle are expected to be included in a memo distributed to employees later Monday.
