Box plans Notes collaborative word processor for cloud storage service
Cloud storage service Box has revealed a future update to its apps and service which will bring it more in line with offerings from Google and Evernote. Box Notes is a word processor which, in a similar way to how Google Docs operates within Google Drive, allows users to create and edit documents directly in Box storage accounts.

The lightweight editor offers basic writing and editing functionality. The Next Web writes that it initially allows for changes in font size and type, making text bold, italicized, or underlined; creating bullet-pointed and ordered lists, and take part in multi-user collaborations. A "NoteHead" will appear on screen to show the identity of the other user, as well as what they are editing, and also comments they have submitted about the item.

The addition will be useful to the company in attracting users to the platform, considering its main rival Dropbox does not offer such a tool to its users. Its enterprise-based customer base could also find it a good tool for business-based collaboration, though it could become more attractive still if it moves on to adding other business applications to the roster, along with compatibility with other productivity suites, such as Microsoft Office.

Box plans to be launching Box Notes to its users sometime in 2014, complete with updates to its iOS, Android, and Windows Phone apps for mobile editing, but the company is already accepting registrations for a private beta test. It is not known how much Box Notes will cost to its users, but it is likely to form part of the company's premium pricing structure, rather than being a free app.
