Briefly: Valve sets launch timer, Microsoft Xbox One vertical warning
Valve Software is hinting at a new launch for helping gamers play in the living room. A countdown timer that will end on Monday could potentially be the launch of the rumored Steam Box, a Linux-based game console that founder and game developer Gabe Newell strongly hinted at during a presentation at the New Orleans LinuxCon earlier this week.
Microsoft has warned gamers not to place the incoming Xbox One vertically, as it could damage the console. Senior director of product management and planning for Xbox Albert Panello told GameSpot that it "wouldn't be a cooling problem, we just didn't design the drive for vertical. Because it's a slot loading drive, we just didn't design it for both." Panello also revealed that approximately 80 percent of Xbox 360 owners lay their console horizontally rather than standing it on one end.
