Firefox OS 1.1 brings faster performance, MMS and push support
Mozilla has quickly released an update for its Firefox OS, bringing the feature set closer to a full-fledged smartphone platform. Version 1.1 is said to improve performance, with faster application load times and smoother scrolling, while users can now send and receive pictures and video via MMS. Developers can also take advantage of push notifications to help reduce battery consumption.

Contact management has also been improved, adding contact import for Gmail and Hotmail alongside the existing import options for Facebook and SIM cards, while the e-mail utility now supports draft saves and attachment downloads directly to the gallery.
The update arrives on the heels of the first devices to run the open-source software. ZTE recently launched its Open phone for $80 via eBay. The budget device integrates a 3.5-inch HVGA display, single-core processor and 256MB of RAM.
Firefox expects its mobile platform to encourage app development, as content can be written in common web standards such as HTML5.
