BlackBerry denies rumor suggesting Google Play store in BB10 update
The Google Play store will not be available to BlackBerry users in the future, the phone producer has confirmed. A spokesperson for BlackBerry has outright <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/298209==http://www.electronista.com/articles/13/11/10/photographs.suggest.possible.android.store.on.blac kberry.device/" rel='nofollow'>denied a rumor</a> that the Android app store would be heading to the platform, a rumor started by relatively convincing photographs of Google Play shown running on a <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/298210==http://www.electronista.com/articles/13/02/01/final.design.unveiled/" rel='nofollow'>BlackBerry Z10</a>. <br />
<br />
"I can confirm that there is no planned support for Google Play on BlackBerry," a company representative advised <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/298206==http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57611896-94/sorry-google-play-is-not-coming-to-blackberry/" rel='nofollow'>to</a> <em>CNET</em>. The statement from BlackBerry effectively turns the forum photographs from a potentially promising move to a well-crafted hoax. <br />

The rumor itself was a mildly confusing story, in terms of what it would do for the company if true. By allowing Google Play onto BlackBerry 10 devices, it would have effectively reduced the revenues earned through BlackBerry World, effectively lowering revenues even further for a company trying <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/298207==http://www.electronista.com/articles/13/11/04/blackberry.to.drop.heins.raise.1b/" rel='nofollow'>to regroup</a>. It could possibly be argued that if BlackBerry ever did add Google Play access, with apps using a <a href="http://macnn.com/rd/298208==http://www.electronista.com/articles/13/03/27/emulation.engine.used.to.increase.blackberry.10.ap p.numbers/" rel='nofollow'>BB10 emulator</a>, the phone producer could have offset the reduced app sales revenue by potentially increased hardware sales.
