Asus launching Padfone Mini in Taiwan on December 11
Asus is launching a smaller version of its combinable smartphone and tablet-dock device range in the very near future. Invitations have been sent out to the media for a launch event in Taiwan on Wednesday, 11th of December, with the invitation naming the Padfone Mini outright as the device being shown off by the company.
The new Padfone Mini is believed to use a seven-inch tablet dock, according to Engadget, one which the smartphone would slide into as before, but this time attaching from a portrait orientation rather than landscape. The base Android 4.3 smartphone powering it is thought to have a 4.3-inch, 960x540-resolution display, with the quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor being used to drive the larger display. Connectivity over 4G LTE will apparently not be offered on the device, with a recent Global Certification Forum listing showing just 3G radios.
Though the full specifications, release date and pricing have yet to be revealed by Asus, the fact that it is a smaller version of the smartphone and tablet dock combination will bring the price down. The updated PadFone Infinity shipped for approximately $640 for the smartphone element alone, with the 10.1-inch dock costing an extra $240.
