Archos reveals home automation, wearable devices for CES 2014
Archos has outlined the range of devices it is preparing for CES next week, including a number of wearable items and some destined for use in the home. A smartwatch and a fitness tracker will be accompanied by a set of "connected objects" centered around home automation, and a separate 7-inch "Home Gateway" Android tablet that will act as a central hub for the collection.

The connected objects range consists of devices capable of connecting over Bluetooth Low Energy, and includes a ping pong ball-sized mini camera, a "motion ball," a movement tag, a smart plug, and a weather tag. While the 7-inch Smart Home Tablet is meant to be the main point of access to the connected objects, the accompanying app will allow existing smartphones and tablets to connect and interact with the devices, reports Slashgear.
A new weather station will be unveiled, one which will also connect to a Weather Station app that will display local and national weather information, and log recorded data. The station will be able to pick up CO2 levels, humidity, temperature, atmospheric pressure, and environmental noise levels both indoors and outside.
Following in the footsteps of Fitbit and others, Archos has put its Activity Tracker at the center of its "Connected Self App" collection. It is able to track footstep counts and calorie burn rates, synchronizes with a smartphone, and can recharge its 7-day battery over USB. The Connected Scale includes onboard memory for periodic app synchronizations, can recognize four different users, and can track body shape based on mass and height, as well as the weight of the user themselves. The accompanying Blood Pressure Monitor is able to track the last 40 measurements, displays heart beat information, warns over irregular beating, and can also filter data by time of day.
While the company does not go into detail in its press release, Archos will also unveil a "selection of smartwatches" that will start from under £50 ($82). They will apparently "embrace simplicity and function," connect to iOS and Android devices, and "feature a pebble-like design."
