DreamWorks, Fuhu prepare kid-oriented DreamTab for CES launch
Film production company DreamWorks is working with Fuhu, creators of the Nabi tablet line, to produce a new tablet range for children. The DreamTab will be an 8-inch Android-based tablet that will feature regular and automatic content updates from DreamWorks itself, including educational apps animations of DreamWorks characters teaching the viewer about the tablet.
The eight-inch tablet will include what DreamWorks calls "character moments," reports the New York Times, with movie producer Nancy Bernstein giving the example of characters from Shrek announcing it is time to shut down the tablet, based on the parental controls. "All of this animation was custom-created," advised Bernstein, with all content being created in-house instead of being passed on to a third party. The tablet will also include tutorial videos from the studio's animators, teaching how to draw various characters using the tablet's supplied stylus.
While the eventual release date for the tablet has been narrowed down to sometime this spring, the 8-inch DreamTab will apparently cost under $300, and will be accompanied by a range of DreamWorks-branded accessories. More details, including those of a touted 12-inch model, are expected to be released during CES next week.
