MS CEO names Phil Spencer head of Xbox, details Stephen Elop's role
New Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella continues to shuffle executives. In a memo to Microsoft employees today, Nadella has named Phil Spencer as the head of the Xbox division of Microsoft. Additionally, the CEO has promoted Scott Guthrie to executive vice president, and has detailed Nokia chief Stephen Elop's role as executive vice president of Microsoft Services Group.

Guthrie was a corporate vice president in the Microsoft Developer Division. He is best known for his work on ASP.NET, which he developed while at Microsoft. He currently runs the Azure team, as well as the development teams that build ASP.NET, Common Language Runtime, and other Microsoft tools.

Spencer will exit his role as Microsoft Studios head, and will combine the Xbox and Xbox Live teams with Microsoft Studios. The executive will head the Xbox, Xbox Live, Xbox Music and Xbox Video teams, and combined Microsoft Studios efforts within the company. The move will allow the company to "bring more of the magic of Xbox to all form factors, including tablets, PCs and phones." The business strategy and hardware divisions will retain the same leadership.
Ex-Nokia chief Stephen Elop will join the company as executive vice president, Microsoft Devices Group, reporting directly to Nadella. Notably, Nadella claims in his email to the company that Elop will "bring together many of the top leaders from his existing Nokia Devices and Services organization as well as the current leaders of the Devices and Studios team."
The email also notes that the acquisition of Nokia will be complete by the end of April. Another employee question and answer session with the new CEO is scheduled for April 3.
