Epson WorkForce printers equipped with new PrecisionCore tech
Epson today announced its new WorkForce business printing solutions, featuring seven business and SOHO models powered by PrecisionCore, the company's next-generation printing technology. The company claims that the new models can "produce print shop-quality color prints, laser-sharp black and color text, and fast print speeds at up to half the printing cost of color laser."

The heart of the technology is a next-generation print chip, based on micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) technology, which uses a one-micron thin piezo actuator that acts like a pump to deposit ink with speed and precision. Its modularity allows PrecisionCore print chips to be arrayed in both moving serial printhead and fixed line head configurations. Use of piezo technology allows great freedom in ink chemistry, facilitating printing on a broad variety of surfaces.

The PrecisionCore printheads have two to three times the resolution of Epson's conventional piezo printheads. Improvements in the technology have lead to the ability both to fire quickly and deliver multiple drop volumes on demand. PrecisionCore printhead nozzles can deliver drops as small as 1.5 picoliters -- 1.5 trillionths of a liter -- and up to as large 32.5 picoliters.

The WorkForce Pro WF-5690 (multifunction) and WF-5190 (single function) delivers up to 50 percent lower printing cost versus color laser, fast print speeds of 20ppm in black or color, and a duty cycle of up to 45,000 pages per month, the company claims. Both models feature two-sided printing, high cartridge yield, and up to 580-sheet paper capacity. The printers support PCL and PostScript. The WF-5690 is the flagship of the line, and available now for $400. The WF-5190 will ship in mid-June for $280.

The WorkForce Pro WF-4640 and WF-4630 offer a four-chip configuration, also with 20ppm in black or color. The 4000-series gives a 30,000 page per month duty cycle. The WorkForce WF-4630 has a 330-sheet feeder, with the WF-4640 able to hold 580 pages. The WF-4640 and WF-4630 retail for $400 and $300 respectively. Both will be available in mid-July.

The WorkForce WF-7620, WF-7610 and WF-7110 wide-format business models offer a two-chip configuration and flexible paper handling. The series delivers 18 ppm in black and 10 ppm in color, borderless prints up to 13x19 inches, and automatic two-sided printing up to 11x17 inches. The WF-7610 and WF-7620 offer 250-sheet and 500-sheet capacity, respectively, and both models deliver automatic two-sided print, copy, scan and fax up to 11x17 inches. Users can also scan up to 11x17 with the two-sided automatic document feeder. The WF-7620 will sell for $300. The WF-7610 retails for $250. The WF-7110 sells for $199. All three wide-format printers will also be available in mid-July.
Also released under the line and with the new technology are the SureColor F2000SE and F2000WE direct-to garment printer. Also released is the Labelworks L6034 and L6034W -- printing business-oriented high-speed, inkjet label press for scratch- and weather-resistant labels.
