From http://lxr.mozilla.org/mozilla/source/browser/README.html

"Q8: What about OS X?

Chimera is the top gecko-based browser for OS X. We do not intend to compete on that platform."

(With Chimera existing as an ALREADY EXCELLENT Cocoa browser already existing on OS X, I have a hard time understanding why you'd want or expect the Mozilla team to "port" ANOTHER lightweight Gecko based browser when we already have a great NATIVE one.)

Have you used it recently? It's great and fast and compliant. I just which it could use services (why doesn't it??) and had better textbox rendering.

Although the Mozilla organization is not providing its own builds of Phoenix, it is possible to build and run it on OSX. Instructions on how to do this are given on the Phoenix Website.

But yeah; as an honest question, what's so bad about Chimera?

I also think that Chimera is good, but it still lacks real stability and a lot of features.

Phoenix seems to be interesting and the mac version seems to be possible to be built without a hitch, why the hell are they not doing one then??

Because it's a waste of their time at this point. Because a native interface (Chimera) will always be faster than XUL (phoenix).

Someone wrote "Because Chimera Sucks." Well why does it suck? Speed...Phoenix won't help you there. Completeness...Chimera is so much more complete currently.

I'm sure when they get futher along they'll build it for more platforms.

I'd love to use Chimera (0.5) more because it's clearly the fastest browser overall but I just can't get it to be anywhere as stable as Mozilla and OmniWeb. Anything involving Java will eventually bring it down for me.
