I have a dual USB 700Mhz iBook (384MB) running OSX.2.1. Does anone have any ideas on what to do about this ? At the start up screen the following message "Waiting for Network initialization" , comes up and it takes about 2 minutes for the ibook to continue with starting up.
The ibook is not on a network nor is file sharing/internet sharing etc. switched on.
Any tips would be appreciated.

My G4 iMac did this when I had it hooked to an iMac DVSE in FireWire target disk mode. Do you have a FireWire cord plugged into one of the ports? Maybe your iBook is looking for something at the other end?
Just a guess.

Check if your Ethernet port is set to configure using DHCP (in the Network preferences) if it is it will be trying to find a server to get an ip adress from at startup.
