Like the FreeBSD ports system, there is now a beta of the Darwinport system.
You can check it out here:

Its easy to use and install. It installs in /opt instead of /bin. There is nothing in the ports you can't find in fink, but its another resource. Darwinports detects and works with fink.
You need 10.2 to use Darwinports. if you have fink installed, make sure its up to date.
