Peripherals under OS X

I am considering purchasing an older film recorder (Polaroid Sprintscan Plus). Is there any way to know if it will still run under OS X?

My guess is not unless Polaroid decides to update its drivers. Is this correct? If so, would this involve a lot of time and expense for Polaroid or would it be fairly easy?

You're at the mercy of Polaroid as to when they will, if ever, update their drivers. Apple already released their I/O driver kit for Mac OS X DP3 to developers, and it remains now up to Polaroid to decide whether it would make financial sense for it to support their older products.

Yup, drivers will be a really big project to get working in OS X, as they will be so different to running in Mac OS 9 and lower.

I would expect that only the bigger companies will bother to update their drivers for older products to work with Mac OS X.
