I'm curious about the RAM. Apple states PC2700, which makes sense for the 1.42GHz version, having a faster bus. But shouldn't the 1.33GHz (133MHz bus) still do just fine with PC2100?

Doom 3 also runs more slowly under Linux compared to Windows - on the same hardware (http://www.anandtech.com/linux/showdoc.aspx?i=2241). It's likely a combination of software (different compilers,...

Not necessarily anti-social. Control freaks maybe, not not anti-social. ;)

SMP shouldn't make a difference. The Athlon64s are single-CPU setups running at about the same clock speeds and they beat out the P4s hands-down on Doom 3. Since AMD and Intel (and IBM and...

The iMac G5 does have EIDE on the mobo, as do most newer PCs. While the hard drive uses SATA, the optical drive is stil EIDE. The education model uses EIDE for the hard drive, since it has no...

Exactly, however you have to sell the whole machine, that's my point. If I buy a nice iMac G5 with a 20" LCD and want something faster, I can't keep that nice 20" display to use with my next...

The Mac mini is a good first step for Apple, but I hope it isn't the last. I hope that Apple finally gets the message that not all consumers want all-in-one systems like the iMac or eMac. Don't get...

I'd point her here (http://developer.apple.com/java/). Find out which Java development tool(s) she prefers to use and load 'em up, along with XCode of course. Not just that, but find out what other...

The Apple Store is unloading their back stock of 1.33GHz 12" PowerBooks for $300 off ($1299 Combo, $1499 SuperDrive). That puts the PowerBook only $175 more than a comparably-equipped iBook and...

So not left out in the cold. The new Core Image page (http://www.apple.com/macosx/tiger/coreimage.html) no longer lists specific GPUs. The 9200 Mobility is a programmable GPU, so it is possible...

It would be nice too if Apple included mini-DVI out on the iMac G5, like the 12" PB, for outputting to HDTV.

The TurboCache version only works over PCI-Express, AGP doesn't have enough bandwidth. That, and I don't think Apple would go for it.

It will hit the six-month mark soon. nVidia has finally released an AGP version of the GeForce 6200, so perhaps Apple will adopt that as the new entry-level GPU. More VRAM would certainly be nice....

The 8X may be a misprint. The official specs (http://www.apple.com/macmini/specs.html) still list 4x drives. It would make sense, since the iMac G5 and PowerBooks also show the same speed and would...

The G4 architecture is slow, there's no getting around that. Freescale does have improved G4s in the pipe that will run on a much faster system bus, but AFAIK, they haven't shipped yet. They'll...

"Don't buy a Rev/A product" and "don't by a x.0 version of software." Sure, Tiger will ship in the early half of 2005, but I would wait until the first point release before taking the plunge.
