Video edit? forget 5400 and go for a fast 7200 or faster.
Thing is with OSX you rarely reboot or restart programs, i have all my fav....

I would use that $250 for more ram, if possible.

You will like the screen of the 15, its way better, besides higher resolution.
The compact 12 is nice if you have to move around a lot.

I would keep the one you have now and enjoy it, in a year or so you can upgrade to the g5 when it comes out.
