I had this freeze for a couple months, then fixed it by cleaning out the system caches using Panther Cache Cleaner.

After a month or two without problems, the 10.3.3 update brought it back.

Also, I recommend that you get Disk Warrior 3.0, a hard disk utility that works on all directories. DW has resolved all finder problems that have cropped up for me.
