The one thing about these mp3 phones that I am interested in is battery life. I can live with my ipod needing recharging every other day, wouldn't want that for a phone to be honest.

If you're going to use apple lossless the buffer size isn't that much of a consideration imho because the files are going to be relatively huge compared (approx. half of aiff file size) to the buffer...

You have to keep in mind that the HD based players like the regular iPods also have a certain amount of flash memory....

Language is totally not a concern, just make sure you already have the latest version os iTunes (iirc 4.7) to support the shuffle. itunes will stay english no problem. The same goes for regular...

Personally I did not opt for the backlit keyboard. YMMV.

Your iBook RAM will not work in the powerbook, since the G3 iBook you have uses PC100/133 SDRAM and the PowerBook uses DDR SDRAM, sorry.

For a pc laptop, the acer is really nice, and the price here in Belgium puts it at a cheaper price than the 12 inch powerbook and on par...

I still run Quark Xpress 3.32 on my 8200 Mac under OS 9 without any complaints. So anything more recent than that, with ample RAM (this one has 512 MB) should be fine for running Quark 3 and/or 4.
