The I/O options on the iBook are: modem, ethernet(10/100BASE-T), Firewire, 2 usb, VGA out, and AV.

Actually, you can. Just make sure it's the correct type. I ordered my chip from a PC-only company. They didn't know jack about a Mac but their chips met the right specs and worked fantastically.
