Worked the problem out myself. The issue was that there was a DNS setting in the DNS box for Ethernet preferences. Cleared the DNS value, saved the settings and I am back as fast as I ever was....

Since the latest OS update I now receive the aforementioned webdav error everytime I log in. My machine also locks up numerous times a day after the update.

This is exactly the approach I decided to take. Best Buy has a 300 gig external firewire/usb drive for $149. I might be able to get it cheaper online. This is the simplest solution for me.
